Island mom finds eco-chic for babies and families

Mom finds niche selling eco-friendly products online

Published: Wednesday, October 22, 2008

One year ago, new mother Joanna Bach was having a difficult time finding eco-friendly products for her daughter locally. After witnessing a serious toy malfunction in her home with her young daughter, she had serious second thoughts about the manufacturing practices of some toy companies.

Then came the toy recalls of September 2007 and she'd simply had enough.

As a consumer, she had a hard time finding eco-conscious baby products for her family. "If I can't find this information, chances are other mothers can't find it either," she said. After deciding to become a stay-at-home mother, her next goal was to find stylish and hip eco-products for babies and their families that could be purchased in one convenient stop. After all, who said being green means being boring?

The online shop opened in May 2008 to a wonderful reception. Customers can browse throughout the easy-to-navigate website and order products via a secure shipping cart or by phone. Local customers have the opportunity to call and arrange a time to come and check out the products in person.

If that's not an option, the shop ships globally.

What was the most challenging part about opening the business? "Trying to pick out what I wanted in the shop! There is a lot of amazing selection out there when it comes to eco-friendly products. It helped having a list in mind when searching out products...safe, natural, eco-conscious, and stylish. I firmly believe that you and your family can have a beautiful and stylish life while making good consumer choices."

So what's in the future for The Eco-Chic Baby? "More brands and selections of cloth diapers," she says. "Families are increasingly becoming more and more aware of their environment and what they can do in their homes to help.

A lot of people think it can be too much work or too expensive, but they are not looking at the big picture. In the long term, it saves a lot of money, helps keep the world a little greener, and it's really not as much work as some people think."

You can check out their selection of non-toxic wooden and soft toys, cloth diapers, baby carriers, organic bath and body products, stylish teething jewelry, natural pacifiers, and much more online (www.theecochicbaby.com) or call for more information: (250-591-8728).
